Tobyhanna, Pennsylvania

Whitman Lawn Care — Serving Tobyhanna, Pennsylvania

Tobyhanna sits high on the Pocono plateau, and it is the coldest, shortest growing season we work in. Lawns here green up late, go dormant early, and sit on sandy, acidic ground carved out of pine and hemlock forest.

About Tobyhanna

Local roots in Tobyhanna

A short season means the schedule has to be tight. There is no room to be late with the spring application, and fall work has to be finished earlier here than anywhere else we serve. The ground is naturally acidic under this kind of forest cover, so lime correction does more for a Tobyhanna lawn than another bag of fertilizer will. Most lots are cut into the trees, which brings shade, heavy needle and leaf drop, and steady deer and tick pressure along every edge. Expect a program built around timing and correction rather than volume.

Why Choose Us

Reasons homeowners pick us

  1. Locally owned and operated

Dan and his crew live in the same valley you do. We are not a national franchise routing your call to a center three states away.

  2. 25+ years on Northeast PA lawns

We have been treating the shale soil, short seasons, and grub pressure specific to this region since the 1990s.

  3. A program built for your lawn

Your grass type, your watering, your soil pH — the program follows the lawn, not a one-size sales sheet.

  4. Organic options on request

If you would rather keep it natural, we run slow-release organic programs that feed the soil biology instead of just the grass.

FAQs

Frequently asked

When should I start a lawn program?

Early spring is ideal because the crabgrass pre-emergent has to go down before soil temperatures reach about 55°F, and once that window closes it is gone for the year. That said, we start lawns in every month of the growing season — we simply begin at whatever point in the schedule makes sense and pick up the missed steps the following spring.

Are your treatments safe around pets and children?

Yes, when the directions are followed. We apply at labeled rates, post the property after each visit, and tell you exactly how long to keep pets and kids off — usually until the application has dried or been watered in. If you would rather avoid conventional products entirely, ask us about our organic fertilizer program.

Do you offer organic lawn care?

We do. Organic fertilizers are derived from natural sources and release nutrients slowly, feeding the soil biology as well as the grass and reducing the risk of runoff or over-fertilization. They take longer to show visible results than synthetic products, so we set expectations up front before starting an organic program.

Why do we recommend a soil test?

Because soil composition is constantly changing, and a lawn that looks nutrient-starved is often just too acidic to use the nutrients it already has. Testing tells us your nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, and pH levels so we can recommend the right amendments instead of guessing — which usually saves money by preventing applications you did not need.

How often will you come out?

A standard program runs five to six visits across the season, spaced roughly six to eight weeks apart from early spring through late fall. Add-on services like core aeration, lime, and flea, tick and mosquito control are scheduled separately at the right time of year for each.

What areas do you serve?

We cover Lackawanna, Luzerne, Wyoming, Monroe, and Susquehanna counties — Scranton, Wilkes-Barre, Clarks Summit, Dickson City, Moosic, Carbondale, Mountaintop, Dallas, Bear Creek, Tobyhanna, and the surrounding towns. If you are not sure whether you fall inside the service area, call (570) 451-3683 and we will tell you straight away.
